Carbon Monoxide Detectors
Carbon Monoxide Is Colorless, Odorless, Tasteless, And Potentially Fatal.
Carbon monoxide is the silent killer. According to the CDC, every year, at least 430 people die in the U.S. from accidental CO poisoning. Approximately 50,000 people in the U.S. visit the emergency department each year due to accidental CO poisoning.
What Is Carbon Monoxide?
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a gas that is a byproduct of any type of combustion. Basically, if something burns, it puts off CO. Campfires, car exhaust, propane, and natural gas are all common sources of CO. All homes are at risk of increased CO levels and can cause symptoms to develop.
Hemoglobin are our red blood cells which carry oxygen. Hemoglobin is 100 times more attracted to CO than Oxygen. Therefore, when we are exposed to CO, it decreases the amount of oxygen that our cells can circulate around our body.
For more info on CO, you can take a look at the CDC’s Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Website.
